Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

RCIA meetings for this year commence at 7.45pm on Thursday 17th September 2008 at St John Vianney Church.

The RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is a process by which adults who are not Catholics are welcomed into the Christian family of the Catholic Church.  Becoming a Catholic is not just a matter of learning and accepting a number of beliefs, it is a process of growth or conversion and involves personal growth as well as growing into a particular Catholic community or parish. The scheme provides an opportunity to learn without commitment and is also for Catholics who wish to deepen their understanding of the faith.

The RCIA process usually runs from autumn to Easter, the highlight of the Christian year and the traditional time for initiating new Christians.

Warm Welcome 2006

After attending the RCIA course last year, 5 adults of the parish of St John Vianney were welcomed into the Church at the Easter Vigil and became full members of our parish community.

Anyone wanting to find out more about becoming a Catholic is welcome to join us on a Thursday evening during term-time at St John Vianney Church at 7.45pm. After a cup of tea, coffee (or something stronger), we begin with a short talk following which we split into smaller groups and share with each other any thoughts and feelings we might have about the talk and how the subject of the talk relates to our lives.  We conclude the evening with a prayer.
