Welcome

Welcome to the website of the Catholic Parish of Saint John Vianney,
located in Mount Nod, just on the edge of the City of Coventry.
HABEMUS PAPAM:  WE HAVE A POPE!

At just after 5pm on Thursday 8th May, white smoke was seen rising from the chimney installed on the roof of the Vatican's Sistine Chapel, indicating that a new pope had been elected by the 133 cardinals eligible to vote.

Cardinal Robert Prevost, of the United States, has been elected as the 27th Pope and the first American Pontiff in history.

In his speech, which he delivered in front of a roaring crowd, he called for the Church to "build bridges" and also paid tribute to the late Pope Francis.

Let us pray for our new Holy Father.

CONCLAVE

On Wednesday 7th May, the Cardinals of the Catholic Church will meet to elect a new Pope, known as the Conclave.  Among them are three Cardinals from England, Cardinal Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Timothy Radcliffe, Dominican Priest and Cardinal Arthur Roche, Prefect of the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.

Please pray for all the Cardinals who have the responsibility of choosing a successor.

Lord God
Hear our prayers for the cardinals entrusted with electing a successor to the Apostle Peter.
May they be filled with the Gifts of the Holy Spirit as they discern the the needs of the Church in this age.  May they choose a worthy shepherd to lead and guide us.
We make this prayer through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

POPE FRANCIS REQUIESCAT IN PACE

We prayer for the soul of Pope Francis and give thanks for his dedicated life in service to the Church.

Make an Act of Spiritual Communion
This can be done whilst you watch a live stream of Mass being offered.
You can make an act of Spiritual Communion by saying one of the following prayers:

Spiritual Communion Prayer for Lent

Lord Jesus Christ,
Living Word of God,
during this holy season,
we unite ourselves with your desert experience of fasting and prayer.
Consecrate our Lenten practices,
satisfy our hunger
with the food of your Body
made present on this altar.

Amen.
Prayer of Spiritual Communion for the Year of St Joseph (2021)

Jesus Christ, our Redeemer,
Son of God and Son of Mary,
through the intercession of St Joseph,
your earthly Guardian and guardian of the Church,
unite us with the gift of your Real presence,
your Sacrament and Sacrifice,
which feeds your Church along the path of holiness.

Amen.

Prayer of Spiritual Communion
(St Alphonsus Liguori)

My Jesus,
I believe that you are present in this Holy Sacrament of the altar.
I love you above all things
and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul.
Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul
so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever.

Amen.
Sacrament of Reconciliation

An Act of Contrition

My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.
In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good,
I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things.
I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more,
and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.
Our Saviour Jesus Christ suffered and died for us.
In his name, my God, have mercy.
